Coronavirus – What Caregivers Need To Know

Today there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding us. New terms like social distancing, travel restrictions and lockdowns have become common vocabulary. To say our lives have changed is an understatement. Caregivers of those with terminal conditions and those “at greater risk” are growing more and more concerned. Caregiver concerns are the most about how this virus can affect their loved one, precautions and implications for care.

This podcast features Dr. Merry Jennifer Markham, associate professor and interim chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Florida. She is accompanied by Dr. Michael Kolodziej, vice president and chief innovation officer at ADVI Health, and Elizabeth Franklin, the Executive Director of the Cancer Support Community’s Cancer Policy Institute.

They discuss and provide answers to various questions regarding the spread of the virus and how it impacts cancer patients.

Although this podcast specifically talks about cancer patients, many insights are relevant to the caregivers of other terminal and chronic conditions too. We at Caregiver Saathi recommend all caregivers to benefit from the this.

If you can identify with this story, please share it with others who care for someone and help them share too. The feeling of understanding, not being alone and access to support is what keeps caregivers going.

Sharing your story helps understand yourself — feelings, passions, hopes. It lightens the load and offers relief from loneliness, anxiety, anger or guilt. Our experiences and hopes can benefit others – to know that the challenges are the same, learn new ways to cope and care… they aren’t alone but part of a team.
