“Because of the situation…there will be negative reaction for any act, from the patient… so keep it in mind, you have to be calm”
Rajesh and his wife were shocked by the diagnosis, when they heard that she had fourth stage fibroid cancer. They were told it was a rare disease and the chances of survival were bleak. Doctors within the family advised them to let her go peacefully without undergoing any treatment. The family decided to try their best as all they had was hope so she went through chemotherapy.
After 3 treatments the minor side effects began to show and she became more negative. In her last few days she did not want to meet anyone neither did she wish to inform them of her condition. Rajesh feels that caregivers must learn to be calm and patient while facing negative reactions from the patient and enjoy the moments they have.
As a couple, they worked hard all their lives but they spent the most meaningful part of their lives in the end, together. Through the pain they tried to enjoy whatever time they had knowing that it would end soon.
“Accept life as it is, in any situation… and if you keep a positive approach to facing it, I feel that you will get an answer”
One must be positive and look for support from close family and friends. Rajesh also points out that in cases like this, hospitals should provide counseling apart from just medical treatment. Cancer is a disease that affects patients and loved ones physically mentally and emotionally, so counseling can be beneficial.

Sharing your story helps understand yourself — feelings, passions, hopes. It lightens the load and offers relief from loneliness, anxiety, anger or guilt. Our experiences and hopes can benefit others – to know that the challenges are the same, learn new ways to cope and care… they aren’t alone but part of a team.
