“Life is a very very humbling experience, it taught us how to be minimal in life, suddenly nothing really matters…..it taught us to enjoy the moments”
After 19 years of normal married life, Srikanth suddenly became a caregiver to his wife when she was diagnosed with ALS. Filled with shock and rage initially, it took them a couple of years to reconcile and accept her condition. Once they accepted it, they tried to live the best possible life. They enjoyed a video chat with their son every evening and asked for help whenever they needed. Srikanth found himself a mentor who spent time with him and guided him, while his friends and relatives supported him and heard him out which helped Srikanth lift a huge burden off himself. Through Srikanth’s story we realize that in the end money, career, nothing really matters, instead we must enjoy every moment that we have. Caregiving is a tough journey but Srikanth feels one must be practical, transparent and connect with relevant people who spread positivity.

Sharing your story helps understand yourself — feelings, passions, hopes. It lightens the load and offers relief from loneliness, anxiety, anger or guilt. Our experiences and hopes can benefit others – to know that the challenges are the same, learn new ways to cope and care… they aren’t alone but part of a team.
