Gentle Warriors: Vandana’s Perspective

“Self-health is the most, most important thing one has to look after… have to take care of yourself all the time…this is not negotiable”

Vandana’s mother was diagnosed with Paget’s Disease (a rare condition that disrupts the replacement of old bone tissue with new bone tissue), however she recovered after a  year of hospital visits and treatments. After a few years she had a back problem and was on a wheelchair, besides other issues and Vandana had to be the primary caregiver again.

Vandana powered through these tough situations by listening to  Louise Hay every night. Playing this audio helped both her and her mother let go of all the negativity and sadness and become more positive. Vandana also made time to meditate, practice yoga and chant on a regular basis. It helped her stay happy.

“Its not easy…its taken lot of effort…but I keep looking out for that time to chant, do meditation, run and do my yoga”

Through her caregiving experience Vandana realized the importance of self health. She believes self health is more important that money, relatives etc. One must look after their health, maintain peace and be calm.

Sharing your story helps understand yourself — feelings, passions, hopes. It lightens the load and offers relief from loneliness, anxiety, anger or guilt. Our experiences and hopes can benefit others – to know that the challenges are the same, learn new ways to cope and care… they aren’t alone but part of a team.
